Education in contemporary art (here we are specifically discussing contemporary theatre, dance, and visual arts) is often expensive, insufficient, inaccessible, marginalised, and, in some places, nonexistent. The contemporary art world has developed its own strategies for how to acquire knowledge and skills, experience and know-how through a variety of different channels. We will analyse strategies, channels for exchanging knowledge, for sharing knowledge, and accumulating and distributing it, and discuss personal examples of the quest to learn what we need to in order to be able to do our work.
